4 Day Desert Tour from Marrakech | Road of 1000 Kasbahs
Morocco Desert Tours – Follow the ancient caravan route used by sultans and traders – to the Sahara Desert. We will cross the High Atlas mountains and travel The Road of 1000 Kasbahs to the Sahara, where you will ride your camels to the desert camp for the night, arriving in time to see the spectacular sunset over the dunes. This desert tour requires a minimum of 3 days but we recommend 4 or 5 in order to slow the pace and see more of this part of Morocco which is the most scenically and culturally rich part of Morocco.
Day 1 – Morocco Desert Tours – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Skoura Oasis – Valley of Roses – Dades Valley
We will meet you at your Marrakech riad at 8 a.m. and take you through the High Atlas mountains via the infamous Tizi-N-Tichka pass. At 2260m this is an exhilarating and spectacular mountain pass with jaw-dropping views. We will drive through traditional Berber villages where life has changed very little in centuries. Then, on to visit the extraordinary Telouet Kasbah and the fortified city of Ait Ben Haddou, UNESCO Site famous for the filming of Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Indiana Jones amongst many others. We will then head further south through the impressive Skoura Oasis, Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of Roses.

Day 2 – Dades – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Dunes (Erg Chebbi)
After breakfast, we will depart to explore the Dades Valley which is an area of outstanding natural beauty and unusual rock formations, before arriving at the charming oasis city of Tineghir with its 2000 year old mellah (Jewish quarter). Continuing on to Todra Gorge we’ll have free time to trek the 300m canyons before lunch.
After visiting the fossil workshop or the Berber / Nomad museum, you will notice the scenery changing and the first dunes rising in the distance. We will head for the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, indisputably one of Morocco’s most stunning sites. Here, you will be introduced to your camel and :-
Standard Desert Camp – We will leave our belongings in a hotel at the dune line and enjoy the trek to the oasis where our desert camp is located and after a moonlit dinner and drumming around the camp fire, sleep in Berber tents or perhaps star gazing under the magical Saharan night sky. The following morning we will return by camel to the hotel for breakfast, before enjoying a full day exploring the desert.
Luxury Desert Camp – You and your camel will trek across the dunes, led by your trusted camel guide, to the Luxury Desert Camp in time to see the spectacular sunset over the dunes. (All your belongings will be transported in the 4×4 to the camp) This desert camp is small and private with beautiful lanterns and cushions everywhere, big, comfortable beds and with en-suite facilities. The atmosphere is magical and you will enjoy camp fires, traditional music and drumming and a three course dinner. (Sand boarding available.)

Day 3 – Merzouga – Rissani – Tazarine – Agdz
In the morning, we recommend waking in the desert dawn to witness the sunrise before enjoying a hot shower in your tent and a huge breakfast spread. After breakfast, our Morocco Desert Tour takes us to the Saharan town of Rissani where we visit the most famous and largest souk in the south. Here you will watch wandering traders and desert dwellers who come to sell their wares. You can see what wild plants people gather and use as medicine plus the sheep and donkey market. Passing through the volcanic Saghro Mountains and the desolate Draa Valley, we reach the village of Agdz

Day 4 – Agdz – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Leaving Agdz, your Morocco Tour continues as we pass through the Anti-Atlas mountains and will have the opportunity to visit the spectacular Taourirt Kasbah and museum or alternatively the Hollywood of Africa There will be time for a walk to explore the traditional Moroccan architecture of the Kasbahs before heading back to Marrakech. Stopping for lunch in the dramatic yet tranquil setting of the High Atlas before the final journey back to your riad in Marrakech.
